How emergency services work
Monaco's emergency services are compact, highly responsive and well equipped. Given the Principality's small size, response times are typically very short.
-
Police (Surete Publique): handles all police matters including crime, accidents and public safety. Monaco has one of the highest police-to-population ratios in the world, and officers are present throughout the territory. Dial 17 or visit the police headquarters on Rue Suffren Raymond.
-
Sapeurs-Pompiers (Fire and Rescue): respond to fires, medical emergencies and road accidents. In Monaco, the fire service also provides the primary emergency ambulance service. Dial 18 for any medical emergency requiring urgent intervention.
-
CHPG Emergency Department: the hospital's accident and emergency department is open around the clock. For non-life-threatening medical issues that still require urgent attention, you can go directly to the CHPG.

Practical advice
- Save the key numbers in your phone before you need them
- When calling, clearly state your location (street name, building, floor) and the nature of the emergency
- Monaco uses the French-style numbering system; if calling from a non-Monegasque mobile, use the international prefix +377
- For non-urgent police matters, visit the Surete Publique in person or use the online portal at service-public-particuliers.gouv.mc
