Public Safety Department (Surete Publique)

The Public Safety Department (Direction de la Surete Publique) is the main police service of the Principality of Monaco. It is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across the entire Monegasque territory, and reports directly to the Department of the Interior.

Who needs to go?

Anyone wishing to settle in Monaco must visit the Surete Publique to obtain a residence card. This step is mandatory for all foreign residents, whether employed, self-employed or retired. You will also need to visit to report a theft, file a complaint or carry out certain administrative procedures related to security.

Main services

The Surete Publique handles the issuance and renewal of residence permits, police investigations, traffic management and administrative policing. It also processes special authorisations (demonstrations, events) and the control of foreign nationals in the Principality.
