Overview
The Monaco Heliport (Héliport de Monaco) is the principality's only aviation terminal. It sits on the reclaimed Fontvieille peninsula at the southwest tip of Monaco, on Avenue des Ligures next to the Stade Louis II. With no airport inside Monaco, this is the only point where you can take off or land in the country itself.
The heliport handles three categories of traffic:
- Scheduled shuttles to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, run year-round by Monacair
- Private charters to other Riviera destinations, Italy, the Alps and beyond
- Scenic tours of Monaco, the Côte d'Azur coastline and the Maritime Alps
Medical and government flights also use the platform when needed.
Nice Airport shuttle
The most common reason travellers use the heliport is the Nice shuttle, operated by Monacair from the heliport at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport directly to Fontvieille. The flight itself takes about seven minutes and replaces a 30–50 minute road transfer that can stretch much longer in summer or during the Grand Prix.
Practical points:
- One-way fares start in the €170–200 range per passenger and rise during peak periods
- Departures run multiple times per day, every 15–20 minutes during peak hours
- Check-in at Nice is at the dedicated Monacair heliport terminal, not the main airline terminals
- Luggage allowance is generous compared with commercial airlines
- Reservations are recommended, especially during the Grand Prix, Monaco Yacht Show and summer
Many residents use the shuttle for business travel because it eliminates traffic and Nice airport congestion.
Private charters and scenic flights
Monacair and visiting operators also offer:
- Charters to Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Portofino, Courchevel and similar destinations
- Custom multi-stop bookings
- Scenic flights over Monaco harbours, Cap Martin and the Riviera coastline
- Photography flights timed for sunset
Charter pricing depends on aircraft type, duration and destination — expect several thousand euros for short Riviera hops.
Getting to and from the heliport
The heliport is in the Fontvieille district at the western edge of Monaco:
- Bus: CAM bus 6 stops at "Héliport"; line 5 stops nearby at "Stade Louis II"
- Car: Public parking is available at Parking des Pêcheurs and Parking du Stade Louis II
- On foot: A short walk from the Stade Louis II and the Chemin des Pêcheurs coastal path
- Taxi: Standard Monaco taxi rank service available
Allow 10–15 minutes to walk from the Casino area, or roughly five minutes by taxi.
Booking
Reserve scheduled shuttles directly with Monacair or through Monaco hotel concierges. Charters and scenic flights can be booked by phone or via the operator's website. Bookings during the Grand Prix and Yacht Show often need to be made weeks in advance.
When flights are cancelled
Helicopter operations are weather-sensitive. Strong winds, low cloud and reduced visibility can cause delays or cancellations, particularly in winter. Monacair offers transfers by car as a backup when flights are grounded — confirm the policy at the time of booking.
