Getting from Nice airport to Monaco
Nice Cote d'Azur Airport (NCE) is the nearest commercial airport to Monaco, located approximately 30 kilometres to the west along the coast. There is no airport in Monaco itself, so all visitors arriving by air use Nice. Several transport options connect the airport to the Principality.
Helicopter
The most iconic transfer is the helicopter service operated by Monacair. Flights depart from the airport's dedicated heliport and land at Monaco's heliport in Fontvieille. The flight takes just seven minutes and offers spectacular views over the coastline. Fares start from around 170 EUR one way. Booking in advance is recommended, especially in summer and during the Grand Prix.
Express bus (line 110)
The Lignes d'Azur express line 110 runs directly from Nice airport (both terminals) to Monaco. Buses depart approximately every 30 minutes during the day. The journey takes around 35 to 50 minutes depending on traffic, with stops at several points in Monaco. Tickets cost around 22 EUR one way and can be purchased from the driver or online. This is the most affordable direct option.
Taxi
Official taxis are available from the rank outside the arrivals hall. The drive to Monaco takes 30 to 50 minutes (longer during rush hour or events) and costs approximately 90 to 120 EUR. Taxis use meters, and supplementary charges may apply for luggage, evening hours, Sundays and public holidays. Always use the official taxi rank and avoid unlicensed drivers.
Train
There is no direct train from the airport, but this option can be economical. Take the free airport shuttle or tram (line 2) to Nice-Ville railway station, then catch a TER regional train to Monaco-Monte-Carlo. The train journey is about 20 minutes and costs around 4 to 5 EUR. The total journey, including the transfer in Nice, takes approximately one hour. Trains run frequently throughout the day.
Private transfer
Several companies offer pre-booked private car transfers. Prices typically range from 80 to 150 EUR depending on the vehicle type. The advantage is door-to-door service with a driver meeting you at arrivals. Book in advance, especially during peak periods.
Tips
- Traffic on the A8 motorway and coastal roads can be heavy, particularly on Friday evenings and during summer. Allow extra time.
- During the Grand Prix (late May), road closures in Monaco may affect routes and timings.
- The helicopter is worth considering if you have a tight schedule or want a memorable arrival.
- For late-night arrivals, taxis or pre-booked transfers are the most reliable options, as bus services are limited after 21:00.
