Overview
Monaco operates a well-funded healthcare system built around one main hospital (the CHPG), a network of private practitioners, a social security system (CCSS), and the Monaco Santé health information platform. The standard of care is high, and most services are easily accessible within the Principality.
The CHPG
The Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) is Monaco's only hospital. It offers:
| Service | Details |
|---|---|
| Emergency | 24/7 emergency department |
| Surgery | Full range of medical and surgical departments |
| Maternity | Maternity and neonatal services |
| Outpatient | Specialist consultations and outpatient clinics |
| Referrals | For treatments not available locally, patients may be referred to Nice or further afield |
The CHPG is located in the La Colle area, accessible by public transport and on foot from multiple districts.

Social security (CCSS)
The Caisses Sociales de Monaco (CCSS) is the social security body for Monaco. If you work in Monaco, both you and your employer contribute to the CCSS. Coverage includes:
- ~70–80% reimbursement for standard GP and specialist consultations
- Hospital care coverage
- Maternity and paternity benefits
- Prescribed medication, laboratory tests, and physiotherapy
Many residents also take out a mutuelle (complementary private insurance) to cover the remaining portion not reimbursed by the CCSS.
Registration: when you start employment in Monaco, your employer registers you with the CCSS. Self-employed individuals and non-working residents must contact the Caisses Sociales directly.
Monaco Santé
Monaco Santé (monacosante.mc) is the official health information platform for the Principality. It provides:
- A directory of healthcare practitioners in Monaco
- Health news and practical information
- Resources for patients and visitors
Doctors and specialists
Monaco has a broad range of general practitioners and specialists. Patients choose their own doctor freely. GP consultation fees typically range from 45 to 150 EUR depending on the provider and your insurance card type (green or pink card).
Pharmacies are well-distributed and follow the French dispensing system. An on-call pharmacy rota operates for nights, weekends, and public holidays.

|---|---|
| 18 | Sapeurs-Pompiers (fire and emergency medical) |
