Getting around Monaco
Despite its tiny footprint, Monaco has significant changes in elevation and a dense urban layout that can make walking between neighbourhoods surprisingly tiring. The CAM (Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco) public transport network provides a practical and affordable way to move around the Principality.
Monaco also benefits from a network of public lifts and escalators connecting different levels of the city, which are free to use and complement the bus system.
The CAM bus network
CAM operates six regular bus lines (1–6), three express lines (X1–X3), and two night lines (N1–N2), covering all major neighbourhoods from Fontvieille in the west to Larvotto beach in the east and Monte-Carlo at the top. Buses run approximately every 10 to 15 minutes during peak hours, with services operating from around 6:41 to 21:05 depending on the line and day of the week.
Key regular routes include:
- Line 1: Monaco-Ville (Le Rocher) to Saint-Roman
- Line 2: Monaco-Ville to Jardin Exotique
- Line 3: Fontvieille to Hector Otto
- Line 4: Fontvieille to Saint-Roman
- Line 5: Hôpital to Larvotto
- Line 6: Fontvieille to Larvotto
Night bus services (N1 and N2) operate in the evening. Express lines (X1 Jardin Exotique–Le Rocher, X2 Jardin Exotique–Portier, X3 Albert II–Larvotto) provide faster connections during peak hours. CAM also offers Clicbus, an on-demand transport service, and an electric solar ferry.
