Sending and Receiving Mail in Monaco: 2026 Prices and Services

Monaco has its own postal service, but it runs on French rails. La Poste Monaco is a government service attached to the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and under the Franco-Monegasque convention of 18 May 1963 it sells the full French La Poste range at French prices: Lettre verte, Colissimo, Chronopost and La Banque Postale accounts. The difference is that stamps are Monegasque.

2026 letter prices

Prices below are La Poste Monaco's public tariff from January 2026.

Within Monaco and to France (Lettre verte, about 3 working days)

Tracking is a €0.50 sticker (€6 for a book of 12). The post office also sells pre-paid envelopes for up to 20 g that you can drop in any street postbox, and pre-paid tracked envelopes ("Lettre suivie") in 20 g, 50 g, 100 g and 500 g sizes for France and Monaco.

Mail to the French overseas departments and territories costs the Lettre verte rate plus €0.02 (DOM) or €0.05 (TOM) per 10 g.

International letters

International tracking costs €3.20. La Poste Monaco gives 4–5 days as the typical delivery time within the European Union, and anywhere from 7 days to several weeks elsewhere.

Registered mail

Registered letters (lettre recommandée, about 3 working days within France and Monaco) come at three compensation levels: R1 (€16), R2 (€153) and R3 (€458).

A proof of delivery (avis de réception) adds €1.45. This is what landlords, employers and administrations usually expect when a letter has legal weight, such as giving notice on a lease.

International registered mail is for documents only. Since 1 April 2026 only the R1 level is offered: €7.20 up to 20 g and €9.80 up to 100 g, with €45 compensation and €1.50 for a proof of delivery.

Eastern Europe outside the EU, Norway and the Maghreb sit in between (€23.79 for 0.5 kg). For express delivery, Chronopost within France starts at €36 up to 2 kg. Post offices sell boxes and padded envelopes from €2.39, and La Poste Monaco will collect a parcel from your door for €11 (booking on +377 99 99 80 50).

Customs declaration: any parcel containing goods sent outside the European Union, or to the French overseas territories, needs a customs declaration. La Poste lets you prepare it online before you go to the counter.

Receiving mail and parcels

• Missed delivery: the postman leaves a notice telling you which office is holding the item. Bring the notice and photo ID. Large parcels may be held at the parcel platform at 95 boulevard du Jardin Exotique rather than at your local office.
• Collecting for someone else: the person named on the item can sign a procuration (power of attorney) allowing someone else to collect their mail and parcels. The forms for individuals and companies are on lapostemonaco.mc.
• Parcels from outside the EU: Monaco belongs to the EU customs territory through its customs union with France. Parcels from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States or China are therefore subject to duties and VAT, which you pay to La Poste before delivery. • Tracking: use the "Suivre un envoi" page on lapostemonaco.mc. Colissimo and Lettre suivie numbers can be tracked like any French La Poste item.

Forwarding and holding your mail

Apply at any post office. If you are moving to Monaco from abroad, arrange forwarding from your old address with that country's postal service before you leave. It belongs on your relocation checklist, next to updating your address with your bank and insurers.

Banking and cash at the post office

Monaco's post offices are also branches of La Banque Postale. Account advisers are available at the Condamine (17 rue Grimaldi) and Monte-Carlo (Palais de la Scala) offices, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:30. Cash machines are at Condamine, Monaco-Ville and on the quai des Hirondelles in the port. The ones at Monte-Carlo and Moulins can only be used while the office is open. Practical tips

• Postboxes are the familiar yellow French type. Anything up to 20 g with a stamp or a pre-paid envelope can go in a street box. Tracked and registered items have to be handed in at a counter.
• International reply coupons, which can be exchanged for postage in any Universal Postal Union country, are sold at the counter.
• Valuables: declared-value parcels insure contents for €600 from €25.15, adding €0.50 per extra €100 up to €5,000.
• Office hours: six offices keep the same hours, so the nearest one is usually the right choice. The Grimaldi Forum office closes at 17:00 on weekdays and does not open on Saturdays.
