Electric Cars in Monaco: Subsidies, Charging and Parking

Monaco has backed electric cars since 1994, and the benefits stack up at every stage: a purchase subsidy, cheaper registration, no annual sticker fee, public charging with no bill and lighter parking costs. But each comes with conditions — a new vehicle, Monaco registration, residence — and free charging is under review. Here is what applies in 2026.

The purchase subsidy

Amounts for a new passenger car priced at no more than €60,000:

On top of that: a €3,000 supplement for taxis, chauffeur-hire cars and medical transport; 30% of the pre-VAT price (capped at €10,000 + €3,000) for companies' electric vans; and 40% of the price incl. VAT, up to €4,500, for registered electric two-wheelers. For e-bikes, see bikes and e-scooters.

The conditions

• The vehicle is new — or new for tax purposes (first registered less than 6 months ago, or under 6,000 km), or out of a dealer demonstration series for no more than a year. Used cars are not subsidised.
• It is sold by a motor-trade professional, or financed through a long-term lease or lease-to-buy by an approved lender.
• It is registered in Monaco, outside the temporary, "TT", trade, collector or diplomatic series, and not in the dealer's name.
• It has never received a clean-vehicle subsidy, in Monaco or elsewhere.
• The application is made within six months of the invoice (or the first lease payment).

How to apply

Online, through the Government's "subvention véhicule écologique" teleservice, to the Environment Department (Direction de l'Environnement) — Le Triton, 5 rue du Gabian, 98000 Monaco; +377 98 98 83 41; Monday to Friday, 9am-12.30pm and 1.30-4.30pm. The scheme rests on Ministerial Order No. 2023-348 of 15 June 2023.

Registration and the annual sticker

The formalities are handled by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (STC) as for any car — see registering a vehicle in Monaco — but at a reduced rate:

• registration: €69 for a fully electric car, against €122 (€46 against €88 for a two-wheeler);
• annual estampille: €0 for a fully electric vehicle, against €53 for a combustion car — provided the owner's main residence, or registered office, is in Monaco.

Charging: the Monaco ON network

The public Monaco ON network has nearly 300 charge points in 17 public car parks and about 170 fast or semi-fast on-street units, each able to charge two vehicles. According to the Government, every resident lives within 200 metres of one. The Your Monaco app shows free chargers in real time.

The cost: free as of October 2026 — but for how long? Monaco has never billed for public charging. In November 2025 the Government acknowledged that the model was under review, not least because many drivers from outside come in to charge for free; the Prince confirmed a coming change aimed at sharing the effort more fairly. No tariff had been published at the date of this update. Some on-street chargers have already been reserved for taxis.

One simple habit helps everyone: an on-street unit can handle up to 16 charges a day, as long as drivers move on once charging is done.

A socket at your public car-park space

A public car-park subscriber can have a socket fitted at their space (2026 tariffs, subject to approval by the technical safety commission):

• "Green Up" socket (small batteries) or "EVZEN 3 kW": free installation, €0 a month;
• "EVZEN 7 kW" socket: free installation, €39 a month.

In a private building, installing a charger is a matter for the co-owners; the Energy Transition Mission answers questions on charging sockets.

Parking

• On-street: parking is offered free by the Mairie to electric vehicles.
• In public car parks: the residential "day and night" monthly subscription costs €118.50 in 2026, with a €20 "clean vehicle" discount; the work subscription (300 hours) costs €105, with a €16 discount. The discount applies to fully electric cars and petrol hybrids emitting no more than 98 g CO2/km, on proof supplied each year.
