Best Photography Spots in Monaco: Must-Visit Locations
Best photo locations Monaco. Scenic views, landmarks, Instagram spots, photography tips.

Place du Casino
The most iconic photography location in Monaco. The Belle Époque facade of the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the mirrored reflection in the Hôtel de Paris windows, and the parade of luxury cars in front create a quintessential Monte-Carlo image. Best time: early morning (before 9 am) for clean shots without crowds, or evening when the building is dramatically lit. Stand at the fountain to frame the Casino with the gardens in the foreground.
Place du Palais and the Rock
The terrace in front of the Prince's Palace offers a sweeping panorama of Port Hercule, the Monte-Carlo skyline, and the coast stretching toward Italy. The view is strongest in morning light when the sun illuminates the buildings across the port. Walk to the eastern edge of the terrace for a composition that includes the port, the city, and Cap Martin in the distance.
Jardin Exotique Viewpoint
From the upper paths of the Exotic Garden, you get one of the most elevated panoramas in the Principality. The entire city is laid out below, from Fontvieille to Monte-Carlo, with the sea beyond. This is the best spot for wide-angle cityscape shots. Best time: late afternoon, when the western light gives the buildings a golden tone.
Port Hercule from Quai Antoine Ier
Walk along the eastern quay of the port for reflections of yachts in the water and the Rock of Monaco rising behind. During the Grand Prix season, the circuit infrastructure adds dramatic leading lines. The port is also excellent at blue hour (just after sunset) when the water reflects the surrounding lights.
Larvotto Promenade
The renovated Larvotto beachfront promenade offers clean, modern compositions with the sea on one side and the curved high-rises of Monaco behind. Walk to the eastern end near the Japanese Garden for a longer perspective. Best time: sunset, when the warm light catches the building facades.
Jardin Saint-Martin
This cliffside garden on the southern edge of the Rock is one of the most peaceful spots in Monaco and often overlooked by visitors. The paths wind through Mediterranean pines above the sea, with views toward the Oceanographic Museum perched on the cliff. Ideal for natural light portraits with a dramatic coastal backdrop.
Fort Antoine Theatre
The ramparts of this 18th-century fortress at the eastern tip of the Rock offer views toward the port and Monte-Carlo from an unusual angle. The stone walls and arches create strong compositional frames. This spot is far less crowded than the Palace terrace.
Fontvieille Park from Above
The view down into Fontvieille Park and marina from the Rock path (between Monaco-Ville and the Jardin Exotique) shows a different side of Monaco: green parkland, the heliport, and Cap d'Ail beyond. This angle is especially effective in the afternoon.
Japanese Garden
The Jardin Japonais near Larvotto is a small but perfectly composed space with a pond, stone bridges, a waterfall, and sculpted plantings. It photographs beautifully in any light and provides a meditative contrast to the urban surroundings. Entry is free.
Rooftop Terraces
Several venues offer elevated perspectives:
- Musée Océanographique rooftop — views straight down the cliff to the sea, plus the city stretching north
- Nobu Hotel terrace — views along the coast and over Port Hercule
- Hôtel de Paris rooftop (guests only) — the Casino and gardens from above
Photography Tips for Monaco
- Golden hour is king: Monaco's dense urban landscape benefits enormously from low-angle sunlight. Midday sun creates harsh shadows between the tall buildings.
- Bring a wide-angle lens: Spaces are tight and buildings are tall. A 16-35mm equivalent is ideal for architecture and cityscapes.
- Use public lifts for elevation changes: Free lifts connect different levels of the city and can take you to unexpected viewpoints.
- Respect private property: Some of the best views are from hotel terraces — check if they are open to non-guests before entering.
- Grand Prix weekends: The circuit barriers and grandstands create unique photographic opportunities, but the streets are much more crowded.
