Monte-Carlo

Monaco's iconic luxury quarter, home to the Casino, prestigious hotels and the Carre d'Or

Monaco — district

Monte-Carlo is the most famous quarter of Monaco, a name that has become synonymous with luxury and glamour worldwide. Centred around the legendary Place du Casino, it is home to the Principality's most prestigious addresses.

Key landmarks

The Casino de Monte-Carlo, designed by Charles Garnier in 1879, remains the defining symbol of Monaco. Beside it, the Hotel de Paris and the Cafe de Paris form a striking architectural ensemble. The Salle Garnier, attached to the casino, hosts opera and ballet performances in a jewel-box setting.

The Carre d'Or gathers high-end boutiques along avenue des Beaux-Arts and allee Serge-de-Diaghilev. The Metropole Shopping Centre completes the luxury retail offering.

Getting around and daily life

Monte-Carlo is well served by buses (lines 1 and 6) and has its own underground SNCF railway station. The Casino and Metropole car parks serve visitors arriving by car.

The quarter buzzes at night with gourmet restaurants, cocktail bars and clubs. It is also a sought-after residential area, with upmarket apartment buildings and an international population. Property prices here rank among the highest in the world.

Monte-Carlo hosts major annual events including the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit and the Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament.
