Les Moulins

Les Moulins is a small, predominantly residential quarter occupying the upper slopes of central Monaco. It stands apart from the Principality's glamorous image, serving as the main area for state-subsidised housing reserved for Monegasque nationals and long-term residents.

Character and landmarks

The district is made up largely of apartment blocks dating from the 1970s and 1980s. While it lacks the tourist attractions found elsewhere in Monaco, Les Moulins has a strong community spirit. Local amenities include a small shopping area, a pharmacy and a post office. Parks and playgrounds in the vicinity serve families with children.

Access and daily life

Les Moulins is connected by bus lines 3 and 5, with lifts and escalators linking the upper streets to the lower quarters. The Parking des Moulins provides underground spaces for residents and visitors.

This is one of the few parts of Monaco where Monegasque citizens form a significant share of the population, many of them housed in the state-built residences known as domaines. The community feel is strong: neighbours know each other and local associations are active. Les Moulins gives a rare glimpse of everyday Monegasque life, far from the yachts and casinos, and is an essential piece of the Principality's social fabric.
