The Yacht Club de Monaco
The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world. Founded in 1953, it is presided over by Prince Albert II and plays a central role in the Principality's maritime identity.
The Norman Foster clubhouse
In 2014, the YCM inaugurated its striking new headquarters on Quai Louis II overlooking Port Hercule. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building stretches along the waterfront with a distinctive curved roof inspired by a ship's hull. The seven-storey structure includes a members' lounge, panoramic restaurant, bar, swimming pool, fitness centre and conference rooms.
The architecture blends seamlessly with the harbour landscape and has become one of Monaco's most recognisable contemporary buildings.
Sailing and events
The YCM organises a packed calendar of regattas and nautical events each year. Highlights include:
- Monaco Classic Week (September, biennial): a celebration of vintage yachts and classic motor vessels in Port Hercule
- Primo Cup (February): one of the longest-running one-design regattas in the Mediterranean
- Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series (November to March): competitive small-boat racing through the winter months
- Monaco Globe Series: events linked to ocean racing and exploration
Beyond racing, the club promotes sustainable yachting through initiatives like the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous and partnerships focused on ocean conservation.
La Belle Classe
The YCM's La Belle Classe programme encourages ethical standards in yachting, including responsible ownership, sustainable construction and respect for maritime heritage. It also runs La Belle Classe Academy, which trains young professionals for careers in the superyacht industry.
Dining
The clubhouse restaurant offers refined Mediterranean cuisine with views over the harbour. While reserved for members, reciprocal arrangements with other international yacht clubs may allow visiting sailors to dine there. A more casual terrace bar operates during the warmer months.
Practical information
The Yacht Club de Monaco is located at Quai Louis II, Port Hercule. It is accessible on foot from anywhere in the Condamine district. Visitors attending public events should check the YCM website for schedules and access details.
