Where to find the best views in Monaco
Monaco's dramatic setting between steep hills and the Mediterranean coast means panoramic views are never far away. Here are the top spots to take in the Principality from above.
Place du Palais (the Rock)
The square in front of the Prince's Palace is Monaco's most celebrated viewpoint. From the southern ramparts you look straight down to Port Hercule, across to Monte-Carlo and along the coastline towards Cap Martin and Italy. Early morning or late afternoon light is best for photography.
Exotic Garden (Jardin Exotique)
Perched on the western cliff face, the Exotic Garden provides an elevated perspective over Fontvieille, the harbour and on clear days towards the Esterel mountains. The garden itself, filled with thousands of cacti and succulents, makes the visit doubly rewarding.
Fort Antoine terrace
On the eastern tip of the Rock, the open-air theatre at Fort Antoine offers a quieter vantage point looking out over the sea and towards the Larvotto coast. It is one of Monaco's best sunset spots during the summer months.
Chemin des Pêcheurs
This coastal path wraps around the base of the Rock at sea level, but halfway along a set of steps leads to a lookout with a framed view of Port Hercule and the distant Alps on a clear day.
Tête de Chien (La Turbie)
Technically just outside Monaco in the French commune of La Turbie, the Tête de Chien viewpoint at around 550 metres offers a bird's-eye panorama of the entire Principality. It is accessible by car or on foot and is unmatched for scale.
Tips for visitors
- All public viewpoints within Monaco are free to access.
- The free CAM buses and public lifts make hillside spots easy to reach without a car.
- Bring binoculars on clear days: you can often see Corsica from the higher vantage points.
