The Condamine Market
The Marche de la Condamine on the Place d'Armes is the heart of daily life in Monaco. Part fresh produce market, part food court, it is where residents shop for groceries and where visitors discover authentic local flavours.
Fresh produce
The ground-floor stalls sell:
- Fruit and vegetables: seasonal produce, much of it sourced from Provence and the Italian Riviera
- Cheese and charcuterie: French and Italian selections
- Fish and seafood: fresh catches from Mediterranean suppliers
- Flowers: a tradition at the market for decades
- Olives, oils and spices: regional specialities
The fresh market operates daily from around 6am to 2pm. It is busiest on weekend mornings.
The food court
Upstairs and around the edges of the market, a lively food court offers affordable meals in a casual setting. This is one of the few places in Monaco to eat well without spending a fortune.
What to eat
- Socca: a thin, crispy chickpea flour flatbread, the quintessential Nicois-Monegasque street food
- Barbajuan: deep-fried pastries filled with Swiss chard and ricotta, a true Monegasque speciality
- Pissaladiere: a flatbread topped with slow-cooked onions, anchovies and olives
- Pan bagnat: a Nicois sandwich with tuna, vegetables and olive oil
- Italian dishes: pizza, pasta and other Italian staples from several stalls
- Sushi and Asian food: available at dedicated counters
The food court is popular with local workers at lunchtime and families in the evening. Prices are reasonable by Monaco standards.
