Why you need to declare a change of address

If you are a resident of Monaco and move to a new address within the Principality, you are legally required to notify the authorities. Keeping your registered address up to date is essential for the validity of your carte de sejour (residence card) and for receiving official correspondence.

You must declare the change within one month of moving into your new address.

Who to notify

Surete Publique (Public Safety Department)

The primary notification goes to the Surete Publique, which manages residence permits. You will need to update your carte de sejour with your new address. Visit their offices at 3 Rue Louis Notari or check MonGuichet for any online options.

Other organisations to inform

Once the official change is registered, update your address with:

  • Your bank: all banks in Monaco will need your current address on file
  • CCSS or CCSS: your health insurance and social security providers
  • Monaco Telecom and SMEG: your telecommunications and utilities providers
  • Your employer: for payroll and HR records
  • Your children's school: if applicable
  • Vehicle registration (if you hold a Monaco-registered vehicle)
  • Monaco Post Office (La Poste Monaco): consider setting up a mail redirect

Required documents

When visiting the Surete Publique, bring:

  • Your current carte de sejour or residence card
  • A valid passport or national identity card
  • A copy of your new lease (bail) signed by both parties, or your property deed (acte de propriete)
  • An attestation of accommodation from your landlord if applicable
  • A recent utility bill at the new address (if already available)
  • Passport-sized photographs (check current requirements)

The process

  1. Gather your documents as listed above
  2. Visit the Surete Publique or begin the process on MonGuichet
  3. Submit your declaration and supporting documents
  4. Receive your updated residence card, usually within a few days to a few weeks

There is no fee for declaring a change of address.

Tips

  • Start the process as soon as you sign your new lease, even before moving in
  • Keep copies of all documents submitted
  • Update your address promptly to avoid issues with official correspondence or your residence permit renewal
