Surete Publique
Direction de la Sûreté Publique: Monaco's civil police force, responsible for public safety, criminal investigation and the issuance of residence permits (cartes de séjour).
The Surete Publique is Monaco's main law enforcement body. In addition to policing and maintaining public order, it plays a key administrative role as the authority that processes and issues residence permits. Anyone applying for a carte de sejour must deal with the Surete Publique, whose headquarters is at 9 rue Suffren Reymond. It does not, however, run land border checks: the border with France is open, and external border controls are France's responsibility. Monegasque entry policing is limited to the ports and heliport.
