Societe Monegasque de l'Electricite et du Gaz: the licensed utility company responsible for distributing electricity and gas throughout the Principality of Monaco.
SMEG is the sole electricity and gas distributor in Monaco. When moving in, residents must contact SMEG to open or transfer a meter; requests can be filed online at smeg.mc or at the office on avenue de Fontvieille. The company also offers energy-efficiency audits, tariff reviews and support for buildings undergoing renovation. Rates are regulated and bills are issued every two months, with direct debit available. Household waste collection and recycling are handled separately by the SMA, not by SMEG.
