Monegasque

A person holding Monegasque nationality, or an adjective describing anything related to the Principality of Monaco. Monegasque citizens represent a small minority of the resident population.

Monegasque nationals number roughly 9,000 out of a total resident population of around 38,000, making them a minority in their own country. Monegasque citizenship is primarily acquired by birth to a Monegasque parent and is rarely granted through naturalisation. Citizens enjoy certain privileges including priority access to state-built housing (domaines) and public-sector employment. The Monegasque language (Munegascu), a Ligurian dialect, is taught in schools and used in cultural events, though French remains the official language.
