Minister of State

The highest government office in Monaco. The Minister of State heads the Council of Government and is appointed by the Sovereign Prince. By tradition, the holder is a French national.

The Minister of State chairs the Council of Government, which is composed of five Government Councillors-Ministers overseeing different departments. The role is equivalent to that of a Prime Minister in other countries. The officeholder represents the Prince in foreign relations and is proposed by France from a shortlist of candidates.
