The Société Nautique de Monaco is the Principality's rowing club and its oldest sports association. Founded in 1888 as the Société des Régates, it split from sailing in 1953 — sailing became the Yacht Club de Monaco, rowing the Société Nautique — and today has its base at 1 quai Louis II, beside the Yacht Club on Port Hercule, with its boats launched directly from the quay.
What it offers
The club teaches rowing to anyone from the age of 12, with a rowing school for beginners and squads for competition. Both disciplines are practised: flat-water rowing in racing shells and coastal (sea) rowing, the discipline in which the club has built its reputation since the 1950s. It is affiliated to the French rowing federation for competition purposes and hosts the Challenge Prince Albert II, which closes the sea-rowing season each autumn.
Practical
Enrolments are taken through the club website and typically open at the September rentrée; a medical certificate is required. The club is on the port, a few minutes' walk from the Place d'Armes and the Monaco-Monte-Carlo railway station.
