Princess Grace Rose Garden
Botanical rose garden with over 8,000 rose bushes honouring Princess Grace, free entry, open daily in Fontvieille.
The Princess Grace Rose Garden is one of Monaco's most serene and fragrant attractions, a botanical sanctuary dedicated to Princess Grace of Monaco. Located in the Fontvieille district, the garden spans approximately 5,000 square metres and showcases a remarkable collection of over 8,000 rose bushes representing around 300 varieties from around the world, all arranged in carefully designed themed beds and corridors.
The Garden's Heritage
Created in 1984, the rose garden honours the memory and legacy of Princess Grace (formerly American actress Grace Kelly), who became Princess of Monaco through her marriage to Prince Rainier III. Princess Grace was a passionate lover of flowers, and the garden serves as both a living memorial and a celebration of roses. It was designed by the Principality's landscape architects and has been extended and renovated several times since its creation.
Rose Varieties and Displays
The collection includes traditional heritage roses, contemporary cultivars, rare species, and specially bred varieties named after historical figures, artists, and celebrities. Roses are displayed in multiple contexts: formal rose beds, climbing roses on trellises, tree roses, and miniature varieties. Each section showcases different characteristics and growing techniques. An olive grove, a palm grove, and a small lake with aquatic plants complement the rose collections, while a sculpture by Kees Verkade of Princess Grace stands at the heart of the garden.
Seasonal Blooming
Peak bloom occurs in spring and early summer (May to June), when thousands of blooms fill the garden with colour and fragrance. A secondary bloom period occurs in late summer and early autumn. Throughout the year, the garden's landscape design, mature trees, and walking paths maintain its beauty and appeal.
