Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo (OPMC)
One of the world's oldest orchestras, founded 1856, performing year-round in Monaco
The Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo (OPMC) is one of the world's oldest continuously operating orchestras, founded in 1856 under Prince Charles III. Its longevity reflects Monaco's deep-rooted commitment to musical excellence and the principality's historic role as a centre of European cultural life.
Performances and Venues
The OPMC performs at several distinguished Monaco venues, including the Auditorium Rainier III, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo (Salle Garnier), the Grimaldi Forum, and the Cour d'Honneur of the Prince's Palace during summer. The season spans symphonic concerts, chamber music, opera accompaniment, and collaborations with internationally acclaimed guest soloists and conductors.
Artistic Direction
Kazuki Yamada has served as music director since the 2016–2017 season, bringing a distinctive artistic vision to the orchestra's programming. From the 2026–2027 season, Nathalie Stutzmann will take over as music director — the first woman to hold this role at the OPMC.
Mission
Beyond concert performances, the OPMC maintains an active educational and outreach programme, supporting musical development within Monaco and the wider Côte d'Azur region. The orchestra regularly records and tours internationally, reinforcing Monaco's reputation as a significant destination for orchestral music.
